The verdict

The VL60 Dual Zone is the dual-zone fridge we'd point most overlanders to: proven Secop cooling, a tank-like metal body and an insulated cover in the box for about $850. It's heavy and has no app; if you want Bluetooth monitoring and better insulation, the Dometic CFX5 75DZ costs roughly $500 more, and if you rarely freeze food a single-zone 45 qt is lighter and cheaper to run.

What we like

  • Two independent zones; either side can be fridge, freezer or switched off to save power
  • This listing includes ICECO's insulated protective cover (a $100+ add-on elsewhere)
  • Gear Diary measured 56–58 W on 12 V with the compressor running and about 45 minutes to reach 41°F
  • Long Amazon track record: about 676 reviews at 4.5 stars

Watch out for

  • 64 lb empty and over 31 in long
  • No app; the display LEDs can't be dimmed (Gear Diary)
  • Coldest setting is 0°F, so it's a good freezer but not a deep one

How long will a battery run the VL60 Dual Zone?

Estimated runtime on a 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery (about 90 Ah usable) with the fridge set to 37°F and the lid mostly closed. ICECO doesn't publish an average draw for this model, so these figures are estimated from its size, calibrated on fridges that do publish one, and are rougher than usual.

Outside tempAvg drawPer dayRuntimeSolar to break even*
70°F0.86 Ah/h~250 Wh4.4 days~70 W
85°F1.25 Ah/h~360 Wh3.0 days~100 W
100°F1.64 Ah/h~470 Wh2.3 days~130 W

* With 5 peak sun hours and 25% system losses. Freezer settings, frequent opening and warm food all add load. Try your own battery and weather in the battery runtime calculator.

The ICECO VL60 Dual Zone is a 63-quart compressor fridge with two independently controlled compartments, a Secop (Danfoss) compressor and a rugged metal body. The listing we link also includes ICECO’s insulated cover. It’s our best dual-zone pick for most overlanders, truck-bed campers and families who want a fridge and freezer at once without paying Dometic prices. It costs about $849 on Amazon, so check today’s price and confirm the cover is part of the bundle. To size a battery for it, start with the battery runtime calculator.

Who the VL60 Dual Zone is for (and who should skip it)

It’s for you if you take trips of several days or more and want frozen food alongside fresh. It also suits a truck bed or trailer where a tough metal box and an included cover make sense. Because either side can be switched off, it can also run as a smaller single-zone fridge on short trips.

Skip it if you want an app or the best insulation. The Dometic CFX5 75DZ has both, plus a −7°F floor, but costs roughly $500 more. Skip it too if you rarely freeze anything. A single-zone fridge like the ICECO VL45 ProS is lighter, cheaper to run and costs about $100 less. If you need even more space, the ICECO VL75 ProD adds 16 quarts for about $200 more.

Key capabilities

Two real zones. Each compartment has its own temperature setting from 0°F to 50°F. The most common setup is one side frozen and the other at fridge temperature, but you can also run two fridges or turn one side off. 0°F keeps frozen food frozen, but it’s not a deep freeze.

Cooling speed. Gear Diary measured about 45 minutes to reach 41°F, which is quick for a box this size. Fast pull-down matters when you restock with warm groceries mid-trip.

Build. The metal body is built for rough handling, and the bundled cover adds insulation and protects the finish. That cover is a $100-plus add-on for most other fridges. The trade-off is size: about 64 lb empty and over 31 inches long, with no wheels. Gear Diary also noted that the display LEDs can’t be dimmed, which you’ll notice if the fridge sits inside a van or tent at night.

Power inputs. It runs on 12/24 V DC and 110–240 V AC through a built-in converter, so there’s no separate power brick.

Power and practical use

Gear Diary measured 56–58 W on 12 V while the compressor was running and 0 W when it cycled off. That’s the useful reality check: compressor fridges spend much of their time switched off, so average draw is what drains a battery, not the running wattage. ICECO lists 85 W in MAX mode in its manual FAQ but doesn’t publish an average.

With both zones as fridges, our size-based estimate is about 396 Wh a day at 90°F outside and 37°F inside. That’s not a measured figure. Running one side as a freezer will push it higher. On a 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery (about 90 Ah usable), our estimate works out to roughly 65 hours, and fewer with a freezer zone. Replacing 396 Wh with five peak sun hours takes about 105 W of solar by our daily Wh ÷ sun hours ÷ 0.75 rule. More is better if you freeze. The 3-level battery protection matters if you plug into a vehicle socket. Gear Diary’s copy of ICECO’s table lists 12 V cut-outs of 9.6, 10.1 and 11.1 V. Our battery protection settings guide explains which level to choose for a starter battery versus a lithium house battery.

Reliability and warranty

This is the most proven dual-zone fridge we track, with about 676 Amazon reviews at 4.5 stars. That’s a much longer track record than either Dometic CFX5 listing. ICECO covers the compressor for 5 years and other parts for 1 year. That’s less whole-unit coverage than Dometic’s 5-year US warranty, so a failed control board or fan after year one is on you.

Bottom line

The VL60 Dual Zone is the dual-zone fridge we’d point most overlanders to: proven Secop cooling, a tough metal body and an insulated cover in the box for about $850. It’s heavy and has no app, and its 0°F floor isn’t the coldest. But no other dual-zone fridge we track combines that track record with that price. Compare it with the alternatives in our best dual-zone portable fridges guide or the overlanding roundup. Check the current price before you buy.

VL60 Dual Zone FAQ

Does the ICECO VL60 Dual Zone come with a cover?
The listing we link includes ICECO's insulated protective cover. ICECO also sells the fridge without the cover (about $862 when we checked, oddly more than the bundle) and with a battery (about $988). Make sure the listing you buy says the cover is included.
Can I turn off one side to save power?
Yes. Each zone has its own controls, and either side can run as a fridge, a freezer or be switched off. Running only one side on a short trip saves power.
How much power does the VL60 Dual Zone draw?
Gear Diary measured 56–58 W on 12 V while the compressor ran and 0 W when it cycled off. ICECO doesn't publish an average. With both sides set as fridges, we estimate about 396 Wh a day at 90°F outside. Using one side as a freezer adds more. Both figures are our estimates, not measurements.
What are the battery protection settings?
It has three levels. Gear Diary's copy of ICECO's table lists 12 V cut-outs at 9.6 V, 10.1 V and 11.1 V. If it runs from your starter battery, use the highest setting so the engine can still start.
