- Rated power is computed from Dometic's 9.7 A at 12 V rating (≈116 W); Dometic lists 61 W on AC.
- Dometic publishes 2.76 Ah/h with the large zone at 4°C and the small zone at −15°C, at 32°C ambient. Our power-use figures are a both-zones-fridge estimate so they compare fairly with other models; running one zone as a freezer uses considerably more.
- Dometic's global spec page shows 2.45 Ah/h for the same model under the same conditions; we use the US page's more conservative 2.76.
- Independent test data cited is for the single-zone CFX5 45 (same platform).

How long will a battery run the CFX5 75DZ?
Estimated runtime on a 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery (about 90 Ah usable) with the fridge set to 37°F and the lid mostly closed. Dometic doesn't publish an average draw for this model, so these figures are estimated from its size, calibrated on fridges that do publish one, and are rougher than usual.
| Outside temp | Avg draw | Per day | Runtime | Solar to break even* |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 70°F | 1.00 Ah/h | ~290 Wh | 3.8 days | ~80 W |
| 85°F | 1.45 Ah/h | ~420 Wh | 2.6 days | ~110 W |
| 100°F | 1.90 Ah/h | ~550 Wh | 47 hours | ~150 W |
* With 5 peak sun hours and 25% system losses. Freezer settings, frequent opening and warm food all add load. Try your own battery and weather in the battery runtime calculator.
The Dometic CFX5 75DZ is a 79-quart, dual-zone compressor fridge. It’s the largest CFX5 we feature, with vacuum-insulated panels, a variable-speed compressor, Bluetooth app control and two compartments you can set separately. It’s built for families, van builds and long overland trips that need a real freezer and a fridge running at the same time. It sells for about $1,350 on Amazon, so check today’s price. Its power use depends heavily on how you set the zones, so run your setup through the battery runtime calculator before you size a battery.
Who the CFX5 75DZ is for (and who should skip it)
It’s for you if you’re gone long enough to need frozen meat and cold produce at the same time, you have a house battery or a large power station, and you want app monitoring and Dometic’s insulation. It’s also a good fit for a van or trailer where it can live in one place, since moving it around isn’t practical.
Skip it if you’re a weekender. A 40–55 quart single-zone fridge is lighter, cheaper and easier on a battery. Skip it too if price matters. The ICECO VL60 Dual Zone costs about $500 less and comes with an insulated cover, and the ICECO VL75 ProD matches this capacity for about $300 less. We compare the big two in Dometic CFX5 75DZ vs ICECO VL75 ProD.
Key capabilities
Two independent zones. Dometic lists a 45 L zone and a 30 L zone. In practice, the smaller side becomes a freezer for meat and ice cream while the larger side holds drinks, dairy and produce. Dometic rates the fridge down to −7°F, colder than the 0°F floor on ICECO’s dual-zone VL models.
Insulation. The vacuum panels are the main reason to pay Dometic prices. We didn’t find an independent test of the 75DZ itself. The closest data is OutdoorGearLab’s review of the single-zone CFX5 45, which uses the same platform. It held 35°F to within 0.6°F and averaged 6.8 W at steady state. A bigger dual-zone box will draw more, so treat that as a sign of good insulation, not a figure for this model.
Features. It has a Bluetooth app with 3-stage dynamic battery protection, an interior light, a drain plug and M6 mounting inserts for a permanent install. If you plan to strap it down, Dometic’s tie-down kit is designed for CFX coolers. The listing names CFX3 models, though, so check that the mounting points line up.
Power and practical use
Dometic deserves credit for publishing a realistic dual-zone figure: 2.76 Ah/h at 32°C (90°F) outside, with the large zone at 4°C and the small zone freezing at −15°C. That’s about 795 Wh a day. Its global spec page lists 2.45 Ah/h for the same conditions. We use the US page’s more conservative number.
If you run both zones as fridges, our estimate drops to about 461 Wh a day at 90°F outside and 37°F inside. That’s from our size-based formula, not a measurement. In other words, Dometic’s freezer-side figure is about 1.7 times our both-sides-fridge estimate, so the freezer is what sizes your battery. On a 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery (about 90 Ah usable), that’s roughly 56 hours with both sides as fridges, or about 33 hours with one side freezing in 90°F heat. Replacing 795 Wh a day with five peak sun hours takes about 210 W of solar, using our daily Wh ÷ sun hours ÷ 0.75 rule. Most owners will want a DC-DC charger topping up the battery while they drive. See how to power a portable fridge for the options.
One compartment set to one temperature: fridge or freezer. The most efficient and the best value per quart. Most people buying their first 12V fridge want this.
Typical: 35–55 qt, $250–$900Two compartments with independent temperatures, so you can keep a freezer and a fridge in one box. Bigger, heavier and hungrier for power, and each zone is smaller than it sounds.
Typical: 50–100 qt, $400–$1,500A built-in or clip-on battery runs the fridge away from the car — at the picnic table, on the boat, at the beach. Handy, but a battery adds weight and cost and still needs recharging.
Typical: 30–60 qt, $500–$1,300Physically, it’s a big box: about 35 inches long and nearly 60 lb empty, with no wheels. AC and DC cables both come in the box. Dometic’s 75L protective cover is a sensible add-on if it rides in a sunny truck bed.
Reliability and warranty
This is the best-reviewed CFX5 size on Amazon so far, at 4.3 stars on about 34 reviews. That’s encouraging but still a small sample. Dometic US lists a 5-year limited warranty, while the Amazon listing says 2 years. Check the terms with Dometic when you register. Either way, it’s whole-unit coverage, unlike ICECO’s 5 years on the compressor and 1 year on other parts.
Bottom line
If you want one portable unit to replace both a fridge and a freezer on long trips, the CFX5 75DZ is the most polished option we track. It has excellent insulation, an honest published dual-zone draw and app control. It’s also the most expensive way to get there. The VL60 Dual Zone and VL75 ProD give you two Secop-cooled zones for hundreds less. For more options, see our best dual-zone portable fridges roundup or the single-zone CFX5 55IM if you mostly need a fridge. Check the price before you buy.
