# ICECO vs Dometic Portable Fridges: Price, Warranty, App and Power Compared
Updated November 1, 2026 By [Portable Fridge Guide Editorial Team](https://portablefridgeguide.com/about/) [How we research](https://portablefridgeguide.com/how-we-research/)

Prices are approximate and change often, so check the current price before you buy.

## Key takeaways

- **ICECO is the better buy for most people.** In matched sizes it costs about 22–24% less per quart than Dometic's CFX5 and uses a Secop compressor in a steel body.
- **Dometic is the better fridge to own if you run on a small battery or want an app:** vacuum-insulated panels, a −7°F floor, a Bluetooth app on every model and the best independent test data we found.
- **Warranty is not a simple 5 vs 5.** ICECO gives 5 years on the compressor and 1 year on everything else. Dometic US says 5 years on the whole unit, but Amazon listings say 2, so confirm before you buy.
- **Amazon availability differs.** We could not find a new Dometic CFX3 there; Amazon sells the CFX5 and CFX2. ICECO's VL45 ProS, VL60 Dual Zone, VL75 ProD and GO20 are all listed there.
- Per-quart value is best on ICECO's dual zones (**about $13.30–13.50**); Dometic's CFX2 28 is the one place the two brands land within a dollar of each other.

ICECO vs Dometic is a trade of price for polish. In the sizes we track, ICECO’s VL fridges cost about 22–24% less per quart than the matching Dometic CFX5, use a Secop compressor and carry a 5-year compressor warranty. Dometic charges more for vacuum insulation, a −7°F floor, a Bluetooth app and a 5-year whole-unit warranty from Dometic US (Amazon listings say 2). For most buyers we’d pick ICECO. Pick Dometic if you run off a small battery or want app monitoring. Prices below are as of late October 2026.

## ICECO vs Dometic portable fridge: which models match?

The brands don’t line up one for one, so we compared by size class. The per-quart column divides each model’s price by its marketed quarts. It’s our arithmetic, not a measured figure.

| Model | Quarts | Zones | Price | Per quart | Amazon reviews |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [ICECO GO20](https://portablefridgeguide.com/fridges/iceco-go20/) | 21 | 2 (divider) | About $449 | About $21.40 | ~856, 4.4 stars |
| [Dometic CFX2 28](https://portablefridgeguide.com/fridges/dometic-cfx2-28/) | 30 | 1 | About $598–660 | About $20–22 | ~159, 4.5 (CFX2 series) |
| [ICECO VL45 ProS](https://portablefridgeguide.com/fridges/iceco-vl45-pros/) | 47.5 | 1 | About $749 | About $15.80 | ~135, 4.7 |
| [Dometic CFX5 55IM](https://portablefridgeguide.com/fridges/dometic-cfx5-55im/) | 58 | 1 + ice maker | About $1,200 | About $20.70 | ~25, 3.9 |
| [ICECO VL60 Dual Zone](https://portablefridgeguide.com/fridges/iceco-vl60-dual-zone/) | 63 | 2 | About $849 | About $13.50 | ~676, 4.5 |
| [ICECO VL75 ProD](https://portablefridgeguide.com/fridges/iceco-vl75-prod/) | 79 | 2 | About $1,049 | About $13.30 | ~284, 4.6 |
| [Dometic CFX5 75DZ](https://portablefridgeguide.com/fridges/dometic-cfx5-75dz/) | 79 | 2 | About $1,350 | About $17.10 | ~34, 4.3 |

Three head-to-heads fall out of this. For single-zone, our [VL45 ProS vs CFX5 55IM comparison](https://portablefridgeguide.com/posts/iceco-vl45-pros-vs-dometic-cfx5-55im/) goes through the details. For the big dual zones, see [CFX5 75DZ vs VL75 ProD](https://portablefridgeguide.com/posts/dometic-cfx5-75dz-vs-iceco-vl75-prod/). In the small class, the GO20 and CFX2 28 are close enough in price per quart that features decide it, which we cover below.

## ICECO vs Dometic price: what does the extra money buy?

The gap is $450 for the single-zone pair (VL45 ProS about $749, CFX5 55IM about $1,200) and about $300 for the 79-quart pair (VL75 ProD about $1,049, CFX5 75DZ about $1,350). Dometic doesn’t sell a dual zone below 79 quarts in our data, so the ICECO VL60 Dual Zone at about $849 has no Dometic rival. It’s about $500 under the CFX5 75DZ.

Dometic’s own US page lists the CFX5 75DZ at $1,349.99, the same as Amazon when we looked, so don’t expect a discount from buying direct. The CFX5 45, the size reviewers test most, was only offered used on Amazon in late October, which is why we feature the 55IM.

Accessories narrow the gap less than you’d think. A VL75 ProD plus ICECO’s [insulated cover](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09B3PQQHH?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20) comes to about $1,190. A CFX5 75DZ plus Dometic’s [75L cover](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZGQDW8W?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20) is about $1,540, a gap of roughly $350. The VL45 ProS with its [cover](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DMZHDRHR?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20) and OEM [slide mount](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089QBMR7L?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20) is about $1,137, still under a bare CFX5 55IM. The $450 would also buy a [100 Ah LiFePO4 battery](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJ78JZ2B?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20) with money left over. Our [accessories page](https://portablefridgeguide.com/accessories/) lists fitment for each.

One caution on quarts. Dometic’s spec page says its volume is measured to IEC 62552-3. We didn’t find how ICECO rates its liters, and some forum owners argue ICECO’s ratings run generous. We couldn’t verify that, so treat per-quart numbers as a guide, not a guarantee.

## ICECO vs Dometic warranty: 5 years on what?

Both brands advertise “5 years.” They mean different things.

- **ICECO:** 5 years on the Secop compressor, 1 year on other parts ([ICECO FAQ](https://icecofreezer.com/pages/faq-and-troubleshooting)). The compressor is the most expensive part, but a failed control board, fan or latch after year one is on you.

- **Dometic US:** a 5-year limited warranty on the whole fridge, per the product pages for the [CFX5 75DZ](https://www.dometic.com/en-us/product/cfx5-75dz-electric-cooler-97000050757) and CFX2 28. OutdoorGearLab also noted that Dometic’s 5 years beats the 1–2 years typical of other powered coolers.

- **The conflict:** the Amazon listings for the CFX5 and CFX2 say 2 years. We couldn’t confirm which one covers a fridge bought through Amazon.

Before you buy a Dometic on Amazon, ask Dometic support in writing what coverage applies to that seller’s units. Then keep the receipt and the warranty card (Dometic’s 75DZ box includes one). For ICECO, buy from a seller ICECO itself runs on Amazon. Our notes show a separate VL45 ProS listing at about $1,137 on the same day the ICECO-sold one was $749, so check the seller before you click.

## ICECO vs Dometic: which is better for you?

Better depends on what you value. Here’s how they compare on the parts that decide it.

Build. ICECO’s VL fridges have a steel body, corner bumpers, a lid that opens from either side or lifts off, and DC sockets at both ends. That’s why the [VL45 ProS](https://portablefridgeguide.com/fridges/iceco-vl45-pros/) is our pick for [overlanding](https://portablefridgeguide.com/posts/best-portable-fridge-for-overlanding/). Dometic’s CFX5 has a carbon steel frame and mounts its internal components on dampers. OutdoorGearLab found it one of the most durable models it tested. Both are rugged. The Dometic is lighter for its size: 44.4 lb for 58 quarts against 52 lb for the ICECO’s 47.5.

Compressor. ICECO uses Danfoss Secop in the models we track. Dometic’s CFX5 uses its own variable-speed VMSO3.5; the CFX2’s compressor isn’t published. Neither brand makes the compressor better by naming it. What matters is how little the fridge draws, which comes next.

Insulation. Dometic markets vacuum insulated panels on the CFX5. Its spec table lists the insulation type as “PU,” and we couldn’t reconcile the two, so treat vacuum panels as Dometic’s claim, backed by OutdoorGearLab’s strong CFX5 45 results. The CFX2 28 lists polyurethane only, and its Dometic.com reviewers wish it had better insulation.

App. Every Dometic we track has a Bluetooth app. On the CFX5, Dometic says it sends lid-open alerts and tracks energy use. One Dometic.com reviewer said the CFX2 28 app doesn’t work as smoothly as a CFX3’s. ICECO’s VL fridges have no app; only the GO20 does. If you’d rather have simple physical controls, that’s a plus for ICECO.

Cold floor. Dometic goes to −7°F; ICECO stops at 0°F. Both freeze food, but Dometic is the better choice if you want a deep freeze.

## Power use: does Dometic really sip less?

Probably on the CFX5, though it’s hard to prove from published data. Rated watts aren’t comparable: ICECO’s figures are MAX-mode numbers from its manual, while Dometic’s are 12 V electrical input ratings. A Dometic rated at 102 W isn’t necessarily using more than an ICECO rated at 45 W.

The independent data points the Dometic’s way. OutdoorGearLab’s CFX5 45 averaged 6.8 W at steady state and used 41 Wh over six hours. Gnomad Home measured ICECO’s sibling VL35 ProS at about 1.76 A average, 508 Wh a day, in real camping. ICECO’s own lab figure for that model is 430 Wh a day. Gnomad also found ICECO’s older VL line draws less than the ProS line. The two tests used different methods and sizes, so they aren’t head to head.

Dometic does publish one number for the dual zone: 2.76 Ah per hour with the large side at 39°F and the small side at 5°F, at 90°F outside, roughly 790 Wh a day. For the rest, our estimates come from capacity, assuming 90°F outside and 37°F inside:

| Model | Our estimate (fridge only) |
| --- | --- |
| ICECO GO20 | About 225 Wh a day |
| Dometic CFX2 28 | About 215 Wh a day |
| ICECO VL45 ProS | About 280 Wh a day |
| Dometic CFX5 55IM | About 310 Wh a day |
| ICECO VL60 Dual Zone | About 400 Wh a day |
| ICECO VL75 ProD / Dometic CFX5 75DZ | About 460 Wh a day |

These are estimates, not measurements, and they ignore the CFX5’s better insulation. Use the [battery runtime calculator](https://portablefridgeguide.com/tools/battery-runtime-calculator/?model=dometic-cfx5-55im) for your own battery and weather, and see [how long a battery runs a 12V fridge](https://portablefridgeguide.com/posts/how-long-will-a-battery-run-a-12v-fridge/).

Estimated power use per day (Wh) Energy per 24 hours at 90°F outside and 37°F inside, scaled from each maker's published average draw. Lower is better.

## Can you buy ICECO and Dometic on Amazon?

Mostly, with exceptions:

- **Dometic CFX3:** we could not find a new one on Amazon in late October 2026. Amazon sells the CFX5 and CFX2 series.

- **Dometic CFX5 45:** only offered used (about $940) when we checked, so most CFX5 buyers end up looking at the 55IM or 75DZ.

- **ICECO VL45 ProS, VL60 Dual Zone, VL75 ProD and GO20:** all sold on Amazon. We link the ICECO-sold listings with the best price, since duplicate listings for the same model can cost far more.

- **Stock:** the black VL75 ProD listing had only 3 left on Oct 29, 2026.

## Which should you buy?

Choose ICECO if you run off vehicle power or a decent battery, want the most quarts per dollar, and would rather spend the savings on a cover, slide or battery.

- Weekend and overlanding fridge: [check the VL45 ProS price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZSSN6N1?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20).

- Fridge and freezer in one box: [check the VL60 Dual Zone price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TXG7G1Y?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20), or the [VL75 ProD](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZSWYRKS?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20) if you need 79 quarts.

- Small fridge with an app: [check the GO20 price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07THMM1CK?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20).

Choose Dometic if you camp off-grid on a limited battery, want app alerts, need the deepest freeze, or value a whole-unit warranty from the maker.

- Single zone with an ice maker: [check the CFX5 55IM price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DVLZL61N?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20).

- Premium dual zone: [check the CFX5 75DZ price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DVM1HDV6?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20).

- Dometic on a smaller budget: [check the CFX2 28 price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DF81CFPP?tag=portablefridgeguide.com-20). At about $20–22 a quart it costs roughly the same per quart as the GO20, but it holds 30 quarts to the GO20’s 21. It lacks the CFX5’s vacuum panels.

## What this comparison doesn’t cover

We left out ARB and Engel because neither is sold new by a reliable Amazon seller in our checks. We haven’t tested any of these fridges; test data comes from the outlets we name, and each was run on a sibling model, not always the one you’d buy. Dometic’s CFX5 data is for the 45, and Gnomad’s ICECO data is for the VL35 ProS. Scores and the method are on [how we research](https://portablefridgeguide.com/how-we-research/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is ICECO as good as Dometic?
On cooling hardware, close. ICECO's VL and GO fridges use a Secop (Danfoss) compressor and steel or metal bodies, and Dometic's CFX5 adds vacuum insulation, a variable-speed compressor and an app. Dometic has the better independent test results (OutdoorGearLab, CFX5 45). ICECO gives up polish and app control, not core cooling, for about 22–24% less per quart.

### Why is Dometic so much more expensive than ICECO?
The CFX5 price pays for features ICECO's VL series lacks: vacuum insulated panels, a variable-speed compressor, a color display, a Bluetooth app with lid alerts and energy tracking, a −7°F floor, and a longer whole-unit warranty from Dometic US. Brand name and service network play a part too. Whether those matter depends on your power setup.

### ICECO vs Dometic warranty: which is better?
ICECO covers the Secop compressor for 5 years and other parts for 1 year (ICECO FAQ). Dometic US lists a 5-year limited warranty on the whole fridge, but Amazon listings for the CFX5 and CFX2 say 2 years. We couldn't confirm which applies to Amazon units, so check with Dometic support before buying.

### Do ICECO fridges have an app?
Only the GO20 in our set does. The VL45 ProS, VL60 Dual Zone and VL75 ProD have physical controls and no app. Every Dometic we track, the CFX5 55IM, CFX5 75DZ and CFX2 28, has Bluetooth control, and the CFX5 adds lid-open alerts and energy tracking.

### Can you buy a Dometic CFX3 on Amazon?
Not new, as far as we could find when we checked in late October 2026. Amazon sells the newer CFX5 and CFX2 series. The CFX5 45 was only offered used, which is why we compare the CFX5 55IM. If you want a CFX3, check Dometic's own site or authorized dealers.

### Dometic CFX2 28 vs ICECO GO20: is the Dometic worth the extra money?
For most buyers, no. The ICECO GO20 is about $449 for 21 quarts and the Dometic CFX2 28 is about $598–660 for 30 quarts, so the per-quart cost is nearly the same (about $21 vs $20–22). The CFX2 28 adds more room, a Bluetooth app and a 5-year whole-unit warranty from Dometic US, while the GO20 has a Secop compressor, a removable divider for two zones and a 5-year compressor warranty. Pick the GO20 for a smaller dual-zone box, the CFX2 28 for more space and Dometic's warranty.
